Calpine Corporation is evaluating new closed loop and other innovative technologies to enhance and potentially increase operations at The Geysers. These technologies are in various stages of development and Calpine is taking every opportunity to work and evaluate these technologies for possible application at The Geysers.
With Calpine Corporation’s indirect subsidiary, Geysers Power Company, LLC (GPC) agreeing to host at its facilities at The Geysers, the California Energy Commission awarded funding via their clean energy research program to GreenFire Energy Inc.’s Steam Dominated GreenLoop (SDGL) demonstration project. This project will demonstrate the use of GreenFire Energy’s Steam Dominated GreenLoop technology and determine the potential technical and economic feasibility of using SDGL at full scale in steam or 2-phase geothermal resources in California and beyond.
