Calpine advocates for fair and well-structured competitive power markets to drive innovation and environmental progress in the power sector.
We strongly support well-designed competitive power markets that:
- Ensure fair and transparent pricing
- Establish consistent performance standards across all generation technologies
- Value different generation resource attributes
- Provide incentives to ensure resource adequacy and reliability
- Allow retail customers, especially those in the industrial and commercial sectors, to choose their electricity supplier
- Limit mandates and oppose out-of-market subsidies that distort market signals
Calpine emphasizes environmental stewardship as a core value. Calpine’s fleet of modern generation has one of the lowest emissions profiles among our competitors. We have aggressively supported an economy-wide cap and trade program as the most cost-effective way to decarbonize the economy and to create a level playing field for all generation technologies.
Calpine supports the transition to more renewable energy, however, it is clear that firm, dispatchable energy will be critically needed to maintain reliability over the long-term and needs to be compensated accordingly.
